The recipe appeared in the Wednesday, Feb. 15 Washington Post Food Section. The Food Section is a weekly tradition in many daily newspapers. Roger E. Coleman Jr., public relations executive, dies at 74
Roger Ellzey Coleman Jr., a member of the National Press Club and formerly a public-relations executive with the National Food Processors Association, died Jan. 21, at his home in Lottsburg, Va. He was 74. Coleman came to the Washington area from Mississippi in 1960 and began his career as a public-relations specialist, working for the Salt Institute and for railroad assoiations before joining the National Food Processors Association (now known as the Grocery Manufacturers of America). Liz Spayd believes in the power of big dreams -- and snail mail. In 1988 -- at age 29 -- Spayd had already put in four years at the Detroit News, where she worked as business editor. Construction plans require NPC member breakfast location change, Feb. 17
The members breakfast will be served in the National Press Club's Fourth Estate Restaurant on Friday, Feb. 17, from 7:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. due to some much needed repairs to lighting in the NPC's Reliable Source. As always, NPC members should show their membership card to the waiter for service. Regular free coffee service will resume in the Truman Lounge at 10:00 a.m. and the Reliable Source will be open for lunch service.

NPC loses one of its most senior members, Carl Hartman, 95
Carl Hartman, a National Press Club member for 70 years and one of the Associated Press' longest-serving journalists, died Feb. 5 at his Washington home. He was 95 years old. Hartman joined the NPC in 1942 and became a Golden Owl in 1992. That made him one of the half dozen longest-tenured members of the Club. After graduating from Princeton University in 1936, Hartman first worked as a Broadway publicist before switching to journalism, reporting for the New York Daily News, a newspaper in Puerto Rico and the Jewish Telegraphic Agency before joining the Associated Press in 1944. Free parking available when members dine at Club
All members of the National Press Club receive complimentary evening and weekend parking at the PMI garage on G Street when they dine at the NPC's Reliable Source or Fourth Estate restaurants. Members who are using any of the other Club facilities at night or on Saturday can purchase a discounted parking sticker for $5 at the front desk. Complimentary and discounted parking is available starting at 5pm on weekdays and all day Saturday. The parking sticker will not be valid if you park anytime before 5pm on weekdays.
