Freelance Committee to hear about writing for radio March 26
NPC news journalist freelancers will learn how to expand their gigs and sharpen their news story telling skills by writing for radio at the next meeting of the Freelance Committee on Monday, March 26, at 6:30 p.m. New NPC member Martin di Caro, an experienced radio freelancer whose news reports and features often are heard on National Public Radio, will describe how he developed his successful career. A new memoir by longtime NPC member John Adams, "In the Trenches: Adventures in Journalism and Public Affairs," is now available from Amazon and Barnes & Noble. Former Washington Post editor to offer career coaching sessions
Jackie Jones, a former editor at The Washington Post and lecturer at Penn State University, will offer “spring cleaning” for careers in a four-week coaching session that starts April 5. In sessions for up to eight people, career counselor Jones will discuss planning and assessing goals, updating plans and getting re-energized. The group will meet from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursdays, April 5 to 26, in the Bloomberg Classroom. The cost is $80 for members, $200 for non-members. NPC member's new book promotes intellectualism, comedy
National Press Club member and journalist Nick Kolakowski has a nonfiction book, titled How to Become and Intellectual, coming out in April. The firmly tongue-in-cheek volume, published by Adams Media, explores the 100 "maxims" essential to becoming a true intellectual. Irish dishes replace tacos at St. Patrick’s celebration Friday
The Reliable Source restaurant, which normally exudes the ambiance of Mexico on Friday evenings with its weekly Taco Night buffet, will convert instead to an Irish theme tomorrow night, March 16. On the eve of St. Patrick’s Day, the popular NPC gathering spot will be the scene of the Club’s annual Irish buffet from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Seventeen dishes – many of them traditional Irish favorites – will be featured. The National Press Club's 15th annual Beat the Deadline 5K race is scheduled for Saturday, June 9. The the organizing committee is seeking volunteers to help plan one of the Club’s most exciting events.
