New Silver and Golden Owls to join flock April 26
New Silver and Golden Owls, the Class of 2012, will be inducted into the flock of longtime National Press Club members when the Owls gather to roost at the Club for their spring "Hoot" April 26. The event salutes the the "long, gray line" of 32 surviving ex-presidents of the National Press Club and 10 surviving ex-presidents of the old Washington Press Club, which merged with the NPC in 1985. The April 26 event begins at 6:30 p.m. with a reception followed by dinner at 7:30 p.m. in the ballroom. All members and their guests are welcome. NPC Member Sarah Gray and colleague Rachel Crowell co-wrote a speech that won the 2012 Cicero Speechwriting Award for Best-Written Speech by a non-profit organization. The Cicero Speechwriting Awards honor speechwriters for their contribution to the public conversation. Judged by experts in communication and rhetoric, the Cicero Speechwriting Awards celebrate all aspects of an unforgettable speech: style, substance, coherence and humanity.
