Fall Membership Meeting, 6 pm Oct. 8
The autumn Club membership meeting will be at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 8, in the Conference Rooms. A dinner buffet will be served. President Alan Bjerga and other officers will give reports on the Club's operations. The membership also will be asked to approve the following changes recommended by the NPC Board: Amend the Constitution to add the president of the Eric J. Friedheim National Journalism Library Board as an ex-officio member of the National Press Club Board of Governors. Reminder: Freelance Committee to offer 'Should I Write a Book?'
The Freelance Committee will offer a one hour lecture on "Should I Write a Book?" Monday, May 21, at 6:30 p.m. Book designer Anna Lafferty; principal, Lafferty Design Plus, of Santa Barbara, Calif.; will cover the most frequently asked questions to be considered by would-be authors. Silimeo named executive vice president of PR firm
Communicator member Debra Silimeo has been named executive vice president of Hager Sharp,a public relations firm specializing in health, education, and safety messages. Silimeo, named "PR Woman of the Year” in 2010 by Washington Women in Public Relation, has worked with the firm 10 years. A former reporter, she also served as a communications counselor for two U.S. Senate Leaders.

Club has National Geographic producer Cromley's lucky number
Not many National Press Club members think about their badge numbers. But when Kathleen Cromley joined in November, she made sure her card had five special digits. Raised in Washington, Cromley visited the Club in her youth with her father Allan Cromley, who was president of the Club during the tumultuous news year of 1968. After her father passed away last August, she persuaded the Club membership staff to let her keep her father’s badge number when she joined the Club in November. “He loved the Club and the people he met there. Annual Civil War battlefield tour to go to Antietam June 2
The Club’s annual Civil War battlefield trip will be Saturday, June 2, to Antietam National Battlefield in Maryland, where the bloodiest one-day battle in American history took place on September 17, 1862. Club members and guests will depart by bus from the F Street side of the National Press Building at 9 a.m., returning at approximately 5 p.m. There is no charge, but Club members are limited to one guest each.
