Digital audio of former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani's Sept. 6 National Press Club luncheon is now available on the Club website. Giuliani assessed the state of U.S. security 10 years after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and left the door open for a possible 2012 presidential bid. Members and their guests celebrated at the opening reception of the 12th Annual National Press Club Members' Photo Exhibit on Sept. 1. Myron Belkind, Club treasurer and Photo Committee board liaison, opened the exhibit with remarks recognizing the photographic accomplishments of the Club's member-photographers. Undergraduate and graduate students who are interested in event planning, marketing and public realtions and associations are welcome to apply. The position is unpaid. Fate of Oct. 2 picnic depends on finding volunteers
The Events Committee is seeking volunteers to help plan and coordinate the annual National Press Club picnic on Oct. 2 at Rock Creek Park. The venue has been booked, and the Club will provide food. Now we need Club members to help with logistics, such as picking up the food on the day of the picnic, grilling, serving and coordinating activities with the cooperation of Club committees. American Legion issues permanent charter to Club, 1923
This Week In National Press Club History September 1,1923: The American Legion issues a permanent charter to the National Press Club, known as the American Legion Post 20, a veterans organization founded in 1919. One of the original members of the Post was Gen. John J . Pershing, commander of the American Expeditionary Force in World War I and a member of the Club, which had been home to Post 20 since 1919. A reception honoring National Press Club members whose photos are displayed in the 12th Annual NPC Members' Photo Exhibit will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, in the Club's lobby and library classroom.
