Hit the gym while visiting the Club
All Club members have access to the National Press Club Fitness Center, conveniently located on the 14th floor down the hall from the president’s office. The Fitness Center is a state-of-the-art facility that houses all the essential equipment needed to provide a total body workout. This includes the use of free weights, Nautilus equipment, elliptical, treadmills and stationary bikes. In addition, the gym features male and female locker rooms with saunas in each, towel service and a full-time professional trainer. Long-time member Jill Decker passes away at 78
Jill Thompson Decker, a member of the National Press Club since 1986, passed away on Sept. 3. Decker was a freelance writer and a former editor of the "Vienna Globe." She was a member of the Mystery Writers of America. Decker served on the board of directors of Historic Vienna Inc., volunteered at the Patrick Henry Library, was a member of the Vienna Centennial Committee and, at the time of her death, was a member of the Vienna Transportation and Safety Commission. She is survived by her brother, three children, four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held in…

Club cancels picnic
The Fall 2011 National Press Club Picnic has been cancelled. Thanks to the few members who responded with offers to volunteer. Unfortunately, the response was not great enough to move forward with planning for the picnic. The Events Committee will discuss at its next regularly-scheduled meeting the potential of organizing an alternate family-friendly event, either at the Club or at an alternate location. Club staff remains calm as 2001 attacks occur
September 11, 2001: The National Press Club was handling an all-day conference for 300 participants when news of the attacks came. Tom Glad, director of the library, was in the library as the plane hit the Pentagon. When he saw smoke rising, he hurried to warn everyone to get away from windows and stay inside, not knowing whether or not other planes might be targeting the White House and the Capitol. Many of the conference attendees were from New York and understandably panicked, so the club set up telephone banks and televisions for them to follow the news. The Club staff remained calm…
