House Committee seeks dramatic photo of Oct. 31 luncheon for Club entrance
The National Press Club House and Bar Committee is asking Club-member photographers to submit photos of the bank of broadcast cameras expected to cover the Oct. 31Herman Cain luncheon. The committee will choose a suitable photo for framing under the motto "News Happens Here" on the east wall of the Club lobby on the 13th-floor of the National Press Building near the elevators. Club Member Connie Lawn updates autobiography
National Press Club member Connie Lawn has revised her autobiography, "You Wake Me Each Morning, 2010 Edition." Originally published by Harper Collins New Zealand, Lawn is self-publishing periodic updates. Her book launch was held last year at the Club. Reviewers and reporters who discuss the book, a best seller in New Zealand, can get a free copy by contacting [email protected] or calling 1-800-288-4677. The Club library also carries a copy. Spouses can join Club for $10 per month
Your spouse or domestic partner can be a member of the Club for only $10 a month. The Spouse/Partner membership includes the same privileges offered to all the other categories of membership, including use of both restaurants, the fitness center, the library and the business center. Joan Walsh Cassedy dies
Joan Walsh Cassedy, a member of the National Press Club since 1994, died Oct. 6. She lived in Bethesda. Cassedy was a senior associate of Plexar Consulting Group, former associate publisher at King Publishing Group and former president of the American News Women's Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Brian, and a brother. She is survived by two daughters, a grandson and nine siblings. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament, Western Avenue, at Quesada St., NW in Washington, D.C., on Thursday, Oct. 13 at 11 a.m.

Members need to RSVP to attend luncheon receptions
Members of the National Press Club who wish to attend future Speakers Luncheon VIP receptions must now RSVP to Havilah Ross at least one day before an event. Ross is available via e-mail at [email protected] or by phone at 202-662-7584. There will be no admittance to the VIP reception without a previous RSVP. There may also be space limitations due to the room size therefore reservations for the VIP will be taken on a first-come-first-serve basis.

The National Press Club's Events Committee plans to host a family-friendly tour of the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 10 a.m. The museum is located at 12th and Constitution Avenue, NW, in Washington, D.C. Silver Owls plan Silver Anniversary Hoot for Saturday, Nov. 5 at noon
The National Press Club’s Silver Owls will celebrate their Silver Anniversary with a Hoot in the Holeman Lounge starting at High Noon on Saturday, Nov. 5. The new hour and venue for the Hoot responds to requests for a time more convenient for our 700-plus members. The Council of Wisest Owls voted unanimously for a Fall Hoot that would echo the days when the bar hummed on Saturdays. Belkind announces 'no dues increase' for 2012
There will be no dues increase next year, the first time in several years that dues have been held steady, National Press Club Treasurer Myron Belkind told the Club's general membership meeting on Oct. 7. The no increase in dues was a priority for the Club's Board of Governors and the Budget Committee.
