Library of Congress adds Club member Foley's photos to collection
The Library of Congress collection now includes more than 100 photos taken in Afghanistan and Pakistan by Photo Committee Vice Chair Michael Foley. Carol Johnson, Library of Congress photography curator, accepted the final photos on Nov. 21. The Library chose the photos after Foley met Johnson at the June 29 Photo Committee luncheon meeting. “It is such a great honor for me that the Library has accepted my offer,” Foley said. “I regard my photos as messages, and even gifts, from the people I meet on my travels, so I put great value on the public being able to view them.” Foley says he can’t…

Candidates agree politely in rare three-way Club debate
Polite agreement characterized a rare three-way debate among candidates for National Press Club president Nov. 28. Vice President Keith Hill, Board of Governors Chair Theresa Werner and Young Members Chair Tim Young agreed that the club is on target to meet its goal of a $3 million dollar reserve, should co-sponsor events with other organizations as a recruiting strategy, foster freedom of the press and schedule high-profile speakers. Tonight's (Nov. 28) National Press Club presidential debate will get under way at 6:30 p.m. in the conference rooms and will be webcast live: click here (note: the webcast requires login and the free Windows Media Player plugin to view). Club election absentee ballots now available
Absentee ballot requests are now being accepted for the Dec. 9 National Press Club election. Requests for absentee ballots may be made in person at the library, by fax to Nicole Hoffman at 202-879-6785 or by phone to Hoffman at 202-662-7523. Please do not leave ballot requests on voice mail. Absentee ballots will be sent to the member's address of record. All absentee ballots must be returned by 6 p.m. ET on Dec. 9 to be counted.

Absentee ballots now available for Club election
Absentee ballots are available as of today, Nov. 28, in the National Press Club library. Contact Nicole Hoffman (202-662-7523)to request an absentee ballot. The last day absentee ballots can be mailed to eligible voting members is Friday, Dec. 2. No further mailed requests will be accepted after 6 p.m. on Dec. 2. In-office requests will be received during normal business hours until Thursday, Dec. 8, at 6 p.m. The election will be held on Friday, Dec. 9, in the Zenger Room. Club secretary emphasizes guidelines about Club election events, endorsements
One of the National Press Club’s proudest traditions is that all members, in their personal and private capacity, may endorse any candidate for Club office, including sponsoring “meet the candidate” events. There are some guidelines, however, that must be followed: Committee chairs are appointed by the president and serve at his or her pleasure. They have no authority to speak for the Club in any matter unless designated by the president to do so, nor to speak for their committee in any matter that is not included in the committee’s charter. This Week In National Press Club History November 22, 1932: President-elect Franklin Delano Roosevelt is the first VIP formally invited to address the National Press Club at dinner.
