Entries are due by Friday, Aug. 20, for the 11th annual NPC Members' Photography Exhibition. Entries may be submitted beginning Monday, Aug. 9. The exhibit, sponsored by the Photography Committee, is open to all NPC members and is not juried. Photos will be on display through September. Club members may submit up to four photos. The maximum size of prints and mat is 11" x 14." Prints must be securely mounted and matted. Rules: Photos must be taken by NPC members and not displayed in previous NPC Photo Committee exhibitions. Club Members Invited to U. Minnesota Fund-raiser; Tickets $40
President Alan Bjerga invites Club members to a reception featuring a talk by Sen. Amy Klobuchar at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 14, in the Holeman Lounge. Klobuchar, a Democrat from Minnesota, is speaking as the guest of the University of Minnesota Alumni Association, which is sponsoring the event. She was the keynote speaker at this year's presidential inaugural for Bjerga, who received his master's degree from the university in 1998. Bjerga will lead a tour of the Club during the reception. Golden Owl Joseph Gancie Dies
Club member Joseph J. Gancie, 87, a former vice president and director of government relations for ITT Corp., died June 22 in Silver Spring. He is survived by his wife. Ruth Peters Gancie, and four children.

The 10,000th Martini Ring - What's Your Favorite NPC Memory?
When long-time member Joe Sutherland was invited to join the Club, he was a guest at the bar one evening, where he met former NPC President Frank Holeman. Sutherland recalls: When I first met Frank Holeman at the old Press Club bar in '79, I think it was, Frank had on an interesting ring. I asked him what it was. Before he could answer, someone at the bar joked: "That's Frank's Press Club ring. He got that for his 10,000th martini." Frank didn't skip a beat. Member Bruce Goodpasture Dies
Silver Owl Bruce Goodpasture died April 23 in Roanoke, Va. He was 91. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Black Goodpasture, and two daughters. He was a retired editor and publisher for the Small Business Administration.

NPC Member Marshall Cohen Honored by Brown University
Silver Owl Marshall H. Cohen was awarded Brown University’s “2010 Nan Tracy ’46 Award” at a ceremony at Brown on Sept. 25. The annual award is presented to an alumni in recognition of their “Creative Communications and Class Engagement Benefiting the University.” Cohen has long been active with the NPC Photography Committee.

The annual election for the Board of Governors and officers will take place from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 10, 2010 (the second Friday of December as per the Constitution, Article IV, Section 3). Former Journalist Wins 'Genius' Grant
Last year I hosted an NPC Luncheon with David Simon, former journalist and creator of groundbreaking television like "Homicide," "The Wire" and "Treme." A one-time reporter at the Baltimore Sun, Simon spoke about the news business and how it prepared him for a career in television drama. To listen to some of what he said, click here.
