Atlanta Press Club needs help in judging journalism contest
While several National Press Club members have agreed to volunteer their time, the Atlanta Press Club could use some more help in judging its journalism contest. Volunteers may be asked to judge entries in print, broadcast, photography, commentary and even the the top award -- the Atlanta Press Club Impact Award. Space limited at members' reception for James Taylor
Due to the popularity of the Dec. 7 luncheon featuring singer-songwriter James Taylor, space will be limited for the members' reception beginning at 12 noon. Members wishing to attend the pre-luncheon VIP reception should RSVP as soon as possible. The reception will feature a receiving line, and attendees will be allowed to pose for a picture with Taylor taken by a NPC photographer. No outside cameras or additional pictures will be permitted. Former Club President Mark Hamrick leaves AP for Bankrate.com
Mark Hamrick, the Club's immediate past president and a 26-year veteran of the Associated Press, is leaving the wire service next month to join Bankrate.com as its first Washington bureau chief. Paul Dickson to get award for biography of Bill Veeck
Club member Paul Dickson, author of several baseball books including the Dickson Baseball Dictionary, will receive the fifth annual Jerome Holtzman Award from the Chicago-based Pitch & Hit Club on Jan. 27. The award is given each year to a person who reflects the values and spirit of Holtzman, the late sportswriter for the Chicago Sun-Times and then the Chicago Tribune, and who makes a significant contribution to promoting baseball in the Windy City.
