Did you know that the Club has a softball team?
The Club’s softball team plays in the Metropolitan Media Softball League in Montgomery County. All members and spouses are eligible to play. There is no cost to join the team. The team opens its season on Saturday, April 9. All games are played on Saturday mornings through the end of June. The National Press Club Broadcast Committee will hold the next “Legends of Broadcasting Dinner” with guest Jim Lehrer on Tuesday, March 29. iPhone photography to be focus of Photo Committee meeting, noon Wednesday
Karen L. Messick, who teaches photography at Johns Hopkins University and the Capital Photography Center, will speak on iPhone photography at a photo committee luncheon, at noon Wednesday, March 23, in the McClendon Room. Messick's work has been shown in numerous galleries around the U.S. and has been published in iPhoneLife Magazine and Nature Photographer Magazine. Post reporters, police expert to discuss Scalia death at Club March 9
Two Washington Post reporters and a retired police homicide expert will discuss March 9 in the McClendon Room the Feb. 13 death of Supreme Court Associate Justice Antonin Scalia at a luxury ranch in West Texas. Speakers at a 7 p.m. meeting will be prize-winning reporters Sari Horwitz and Amy Brittain and former Metropolitan Police Department Deputy Chief William Ritchie. Speakers Committee seeks applicants for open spots
The Speakers Committee is seeking applications for several open spots on the committee from Club members who are interested in helping organize the Club’s marquee luncheons. Committee members, who are appointed by invitation of the Club’s president, help select and recruit speakers, arrange the luncheon logistics, publicize the events and escort the guest speaker. Many broadcasters will begin telling their professional history with something like "It all started in a 5,000 watt radio station." Not so, one of the newest members of the National Press Club Broadcast Committee Sonji Robinson Joyner. Journalist Sofia Mannos faces complex rehabilitation; donations welcomed
Broadcast journalist Sofia Mannos, whose enterprising career was unexpectedly cut short by a bad fall in late 2014, continues to rehabilitate with help from her family, friends and colleagues. But now she urgently needs help. Mannos, an award-winning journalist and multilingual Euro-American, devoted more than 30 years to a career that spanned United Press International, Associated Press, CNN and Voice of Russia.
