Annual Civil War tour will follow the escape route of John Wilkes Booth, July 23
Instead of visiting a nearby battlefield, this year’s annual Civil War tour for National Press Club members on Saturday, July 23, will follow the escape route of Lincoln assassin John Wilkes Booth. Club members and their guests will trace Booth’s escape from Washington the night of April 14, 1865, after shooting President Lincoln at Ford’s Theater. The group will depart by bus promptly at 8 a.m. from the F Street side of the National Press Building, returning at approximately 4:30 p.m. There is no charge the trip but Club members are limited to one guest each. The National Press Foundation is offering a four-day boot camp on mental health, including diagnosis and intervention; developments in treatment and research; economic impact; demographics; mental health legislation and public policy reforms; successful models in crisis intervention training for law enforcement; and community-based care. Did you know that National Press Club members can reserve specific space without paying room rental? The McClendon Room, the Games Room and the Mezzanine are available to members as an exceptional venue for meetings, cocktail parties and other special occasions. The space is located on the 14th floor of the National Press Club. Reservations are free for Club members, but there is a food and beverage minimum in exchange for use of the rooms during dining hours. The National Press Club's 17th annual Members Photography Exhibit is rapidly approaching, so it's time to choose up to four of your best images to display. Entries for the exhibit are accepted beginning on Monday, Aug. 1, through Friday, Aug. 12, in the Club's Membership Office. Pro and amateur photographers in the membership are welcome to take part. The exhibit is a display of Club members' photographic talent, but is not a contest.
