Johnstone's fictional journalist embarks on new adventure in "Chain Reaction"
Mike McCabe, the fictional DC-based journalist, creation of member Bill Johnstone, is on another adventure. A top criminal lawyer, missing while on vacation in Daytona Beach, Fla., and the discovery of a dead girl on the banks of the Potomac, send McCabe to Florida to expose the darker side of the new Cuban-American détente. The new book, "Chain Reaction," is available in e-book format from Kindle, Apple and Smashwords and paperback from Barnes&Noble and other major book retailers.

Play Ball: NPC Night at Nationals Park on Sept. 10
Please join your fellow National Press Club members as we watch the Washington Nationals take on National League East rivals the Philadelphia Phillies. Game time is 7:05 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 10. Tickets in our left field mezzanine section (a level lower than last year) are just $31 each, plus a small ticketing fee; guests of Club members are very welcome. Tickets must be purchased here. Morgan's artwork on display at PG's Plaza Community Center, Aug. 13
Members are invited to the art reception in Hyattsville, Md., on Saturday, Aug. 13 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., for member Carol Morgan. Morgan's collages, paintings, and drawing will be on display at the Prince George's Plaza Community Center at 6600 Adelphi Road (Green line). Among her works is a collage of Maureen Dowd, New York Times Pulitzer prize winner. Morgan's work will be shown until Aug. 31. The show is sponsored by the Hyattsville Community Art Association. For almost three years, the National Press Broadcast Committee has produced Update-1, a podcast for listeners to learn more about newsworthy stories originating from the Club’s facilities, as well as broader topics related to journalism, communications, freedom and transparency. Entries are now being accepted for this year's National Press Club Members' Photography Exhibit in the membership office on the 13th floor. The period for submitting entries runs from Monday, Aug. 1 to Friday, Aug. 12. Because exhibit space is limited, we give preference to photos delivered during the acceptance period. NPC group gets close look at escape route of Lincoln assassin John Wilkes Booth
Some 35 NPC members and guests got a close-up look at the escape route into Maryland of Lincoln assassin John Wilkes Booth on the Club's annual Civil War trip on Saturday, July 23. Led by expert guide Dave Taylor, the group departed DC with a drive-by of the home of convicted conspirator Mary Surratt at 604 H St. NW, now a Chinese restaurant. Taylor was attired in the same black wool outfit worn by Booth, an acclaimed stage actor, when he shot Lincoln at Ford's Theatre the night of April 14, 1865.
