Deadline approaching to enter your best work in Club's journalism contest
Time is running out to get your best journalism from 2017 entered in the National Press Club’s annual journalism contest. The extended deadline is Monday. The best work in breaking news, political coverage, broadcast news, consumer news, online news techniques, foreign coverage and news photos are among the awards being offered. Many of the categories have cash prizes and some offer a year of free Club membership. For details on the categories and the prizes click here. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, will discuss the nation’s pending pension crisis and the new, bipartisan congressional committee that was formed to find a solution at a National Press Club Headliners Luncheon on Thursday. The pension plans of 1.5 million workers and retirees nationwide are facing shortfalls and are at risk of insolvency in the coming decade. Brown and Sen. The National Press Club offers the Angele Gingras Humor Award for those with a talent for writing the humorous side of the news. Monday's extended deadline is fast approaching. The award is named for a longtime Club member who was good at humor writing. The award is given for work from 2017. The best political reporting and writing from 2017 should be entered in the National Press Club's journalism contest so it can be recognized by the Lee Walczak Award for Political Analysis. The deadline has been extended to Monday, April 16. This award is named in memory of Lee Walczak, a Washington editor, bureau chief and White House correspondent who worked for Bloomberg News and BusinessWeek.
