It's not too late to donate to fund for furloughed NPC employees
National Press Club members and staff donated $8,575 to a fund for furloughed Club employees during its first month of existence. The Club established the staff support fund in late June for 46 employees furloughed due to a slowdown in business operations caused by the COVID19 pandemic. The money collected so far has financed a $200 Giant gift card for each furloughed Club employee. Author and veteran journalist Karen Gray Houston grew up in Montgomery, Ala., the daughter of one such hero and niece to another. The show is the Club's 21st annual celebration of visual storytelling with entries accepted online until Saturday, Aug. 22. The Club's Photography Committee wants your best photos — those that show special people, events, and moments. The event is a true exhibit, not a contest. Runners, supporters needed for Foley Freedom Run on Oct. 17 to promote press freedom
Support press freedom and journalist safety by joining the National Press Club team for the 6th Annual Foley Freedom Run on Saturday, Oct. 17. Registration costs $40 and includes a t-shirt. The National Press Club will mark the anniversary of the abduction and detention of Award-winning journalist and Marine veteran Austin Tice on Friday, Aug, 14, with the launch of a Freedom Clock that will display a dynamic record of Tice's captivity in Syria. The commemoration will be held at the staircase in the Club's lobby at noon on Aug. 14.
