The National Press Club offers the Arthur Rowse Award for Press Criticism, which honors the best coverage in 2017 of media issues. The award, part of the Club’s journalism contest, is sponsored by former U.S. News & World Report journalist Arthur Rowse. The National Press Club's podcast series has just posted its 100th edition. Started in October 2013, Update-1 has hosted numerous guests, not all of them strictly connected to the Club, but all of them of interest to members and to the general public. Best writing in diplomatic, foreign policy issues to be honored in Club journalism contest
Your best reporting and writing on diplomatic and foreign affairs for 2017 is wanted for the National Press Club’s annual journalism contest. The winners in both print/online and broadcast will get the Edwin M. Hood Award for Diplomatic Correspondence. The award is named for Hood, a distinguished diplomatic correspondent for The Associated Press and a founding member of the Club. Czech ambassador to speak at Club President Andrea Edney’s inauguration, Feb. 10
Hynek Kmoníček, the Czech Republic ambassador to the United States, will speak at the inauguration of National Press Club President Andrea Edney on Feb. 10. Edney, the 111th Club president, moved to the Czech Republic at age of 17 to study the language and then attended Karlova Univerzita, one of the world’s oldest universities. She began working as a reporter in Prague at the age of 19 and ultimately joined the Bloomberg News Prague bureau. She lived in the country for six years before moving to Slovakia. The National Press Club journalism contest is accepting breaking news entries for broadcast and for print for the next couple of months. Breaking news is one of the most important assignments journalists have, and the Club wants to recognize the very best work in both broadcast and for print/online stories from 2017. President Kennedy's letter to Club President Cosgrove found
When the John F. Kennedy Library put together a joint program with the National Press Club last week, it sent something that the Club had not seen: A copy of President Kennedy’s letter to Club President John Cosgrove just after Kennedy attended Cosgrove’s inaugural party. That Kennedy stopped by Cosgrove’s party just two weeks after Kennedy’s inauguration in 1961 is a part of Club lore. The photo of the meeting is in the Cosgrove Lounge.
