Past National Press Club President Doug Harbrecht to serve as interim executive director of Journalism Institute
Doug Harbrecht, a past president of the National Press Club, will serve as interim executive director of the NPC Journalism Institute this summer. Harbrecht, who retired in Jaunuary as director of digital media for Kiplinger, is stepping in to lead the Club’s non-profit educational arm after the death last month of longtime executive director Julie Schoo. Harbrecht served as Club president in 1998 and has remained an active participant in Club activities. Kathy Kiely, the National Press Club Journalism Institute Press Freedom Fellow, was named the Lee Hills Chair in Free-Press Studies at the Missouri School of Journalism last week. A veteran journalist, Kiely's reporting and editing career has included work with WAMU-FM, Bill Moyers, Bloomberg Politics, National Journal and USA Today, as well as with the Sunlight Foundation. Sign up today: Learn how to convert print stories to video at Boot Camp, June 9
The Young Members Team of the National Press Club will hold a day-long training session on Saturday, June 9, for young journalists to learn how to turn print pieces into video stories. The course will begin at 9 a.m. with a three-hour lecture on how to converting print to video for the Web, taught by Zach Toombs and Kate Grumke of Newsy. The cost of the class is $10.
