Today is the day when National Press Club members and representatives of other journalism organizations will gather at Freedom Plaza to mark one year of Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich being jailed on bogus charges in Russia. The group will assemble at 1 p.m. for a photo with the U.S. Capitol in the background. 'Democracy on Trial' among PBS Frontline’s most watched films this year, producer says
The co-producer of the PBS Frontline's documentary on the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection and its aftermath said the film was one of its most viewed productions. “It’s one of the most-watched films we’ve made this year, if not in many years,” said Mike Wiser, who co-produced the documentary with Michael Kirk, at a March 27 event at the Club. Press Club veteran Irv Chapman discusses his 65 years in broadcasting
Irv Chapman asked if he could start his remarks a little early when he was honored as a Legend of Broadcasting at the National Press Club on March 26. Not because the 68-year member of the Club wanted to get home to bed early, but because he had a 65 year-plus career's worth of stories to tell in an allotted 75 minutes. Son of famed U-2 pilot promotes history for kids
National Press Club member Francis Gary Powers Jr., son of the famed U-2 pilot, says kids need to know their history to understand the present. That's why his current projects include a series of graphic novels about the Cold War. Powers spoke Wednesday at a meeting of American Legion Post 20. His recent publications include the graphic novel Enemy Territory, which tells the story of his father's shootdown over the Soviet Union in 1960.
