Documentary film screening June 18 to highlight current impact of climate change on U.S. coastal communities
Hurricane Sandy,a "game changer" for many Americans who were not convinced that climate change would affect them, has provoked new interest in the link between rising sea levels and a warmer climate. On Tuesday, June 18, filmmaker Ben Kalina will screen at the National Press Club his new documentary, "Shored Up," which explains that link and implications for residents of coastal states. JUNE 5, 2012: National Press Club member Tony Culley-Foster represented the United States as an Olympic Games Torchbearer when he carried the Olympic Flame across the borders of Counties Londonderry (Derry) and Tyrone in the village of Magheramason, Northern Ireland. In the summer of 1975, Tony ran 2.986 miles across the United States from San Francisco to Washington, D.C. to promote the President’s Council for Physical Fitness and Sports. Agriculture Secretary Vilsack to Speak at June 5 Luncheon
U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack will speak at a Club luncheon at 12:30 pm on Wednesday, June 5, with remarks beginning at 1 pm, followed by a question-and-answer session ending at 2 pm. Vilsack will discuss risks of droughts, floods, invasive pests and food waste in the United States and highlight solutions to improve sustainability.
