The National Press Club will honor the nation's best journalism and recognize the courageous work of journalists who report despite extraordinary hardship at an awards dinner Tuesday, Aug. 6. The John Aubuchon Press Freedom Awards will honor journalist Zeynep Kuray of Turkey, and the anonymous "whistleblowers" who expose wrongdoing at their own peril. In a unique appearance at the National Press Club, 20 chefs to world leaders, including kings, queens and presidents, will participate in a Newsmaker news conference at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, in the Holeman Lounge to discuss their week-long visit to the United States. Memorial for Mr. Price Saturday Noon - 1 p.m.
The National Press Club Fellowship committee will hold a memorial service for Andrew Price, former NPC head waiter, from noon until 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 27, in the Holeman Lounge. Club members are invited to attend. Mr. Price, a much-loved waiter at the Club who retired last Aug. 3 after 45 years of service, died in April of a heart attack. He was 66. Mr. Price grew up in Scotland Neck, N.C., and came to Washington in his late teens, working first as a dishwasher at the Shoreham Hotel and later at the Heritage House restaurant in Georgetown.
