Jazz Night Returns to Fourth Estate Restaurant Tonight
Jazz Night returns to the Fourth Estate Restaurant during dinner tonight. Members of the Blues Alley Youth Orchestra will play from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. as background music. To reserve, click here or call 202-662-7638. The restaurant will host the event with Blues Alley, Georgetown’s home for jazz. In addition to great music, there will be culinary jazz specials of oysters Rockefeller, oysters Bienville and okra gumbo with rice and beans. Tickets for Takei Luncheon Limited to Members and Guests Through Friday
Actor and gay rights advocate George Takei, best known for his role as Hikaru Sulu on ``Star Trek'' will speak about LGBT issues at a Club luncheon on Friday, Oct. 18. Sulu was the helmsman aboard the USS Enterprise in the original Star Trek television series, and later was promoted to captain of the USS Excelsior. Takei has become and outspoken advocate for the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered people and for the rights of Japanese-Americans. Supreme Court Campaign Finance Case Is Subject of Oct. 1 Newsmaker
A U.S. Supreme Court case that could allow donors to give millions of dollars more than they now can contribute to federal campaigns is the subject of a Newsmaker event at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Club. Talking about McCutcheon v. FEC will be Trevor Potter, a former Federal Election Commission chairman and founding president and general counsel of the Campaign Legal Center, and Fred Wertheimer is founder and president of Democracy 21, an advocacy group that lobbies for stronger campaign finance laws. Forty years after Robert Bork carried out the firing of Watergate special prosecutor Archibald Cox at the behest of President Richard Nixon, the National Press Club will host a retrospective of what has become known as the ``Saturday Night Massacre.
