The National Press Club wants to see the best coverage from 2014 of news from around the world. Past winners of the Edwin M. Hood Award for Diplomatic Correspondence have covered policy failures in Syria, uncovered corruption and mismanagement in the Afghanistan rebuilding efforts; traced the trail of high-powered guns smuggled from the United States into Mexico; and exposed the Obama administration’s foreign policy battles during the Arab Spring. WANTED: The best breaking news coverage from 2014 in broadcast and print
Breaking news is one of the most important assignments journalists have, and the National Press Club wants to recognize the very best work from 2014 in broadcast and print/online stories. Entries will be judged for quality of reporting, speed and innovation. Particular attention will be given to reporting in the first 24 hours and the use of a variety of formats to reach news consumers. Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, a potential presidential candidate, will speak about “An American Agenda” at a National Press Club luncheon on Monday, March 9. FDA commissioner to speak at NPC luncheon on March 27
Dr. Margaret Hamburg, the outgoing commissioner of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, will speak at a National Press Club Newsmaker Luncheon on March 27. Dr. Hamburg, the FDA commissioner since May 2009, announced her retirement from the agency on Feb. 5. She will step down in late March. Dr. Stephen Ostroff, recently FDA chief scientist, will be the Acting Commissioner until Dr. Hamburg's successor is named.
