The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) will present its annual Economic Survey of the United States at a National Press Club Newsmaker at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 26, in the Club's Lisagor Room. The survey by the Paris-based international organization provides an in-depth analysis of the U.S. economy and offers policy recommendations to promote sustainable economic growth and employment. The National Press Club's annual Journalism Boot Camp, a valuable resource for both beginning and veteran journalists, has been scheduled for Saturday,July 14. Save the date. Organized by the NPC Journalism Institute's Professional Development Committee, the all-day workshop is devoted to helping you find your next job or helping you do the one you have better. Actress Kathleen Turner to speak on women's health Issues at Sept. 6 luncheon
Kathleen Turner, iconic film and stage star and chair of Planned Parenthood's Board of Advocates, will discuss reproductive rights and the state of women's health at a National Press Club luncheon on Thursday, Sept. 6. Turner will be in Washington, D.C., from late August through October, performing as a rabble-rousing journalist in “Red Hot Patriot: The Kick-Ass Wit of Molly Ivins” at Arena Stage. Author to discuss his newest military thriller, 'The Renegades,' 6:30 pm July 24
Tom Young, author of popular military novels, will discuss his latest thriller, “The Renegades,”at a National Press Club Book Rap at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 24. The National Press Club’s American Legion Post 20 will conduct a memorial service for its late commander emeritus, World War II hero and NPC Silver Owl Ken Blackshaw at the Club on Thursday, June 21, at 11:30 a.m. Open to all Club members and Blackshaw's friends, the event will begin with a cash bar and lunch. Duke Energy CEO Rogers to speak on future of electric-utility industry July 16
Jim Rogers, chief executive officer of Duke Energy, will address the National Press Club at a luncheon July 16 on the future of the electric-utility industry. Rogers is leading the merger of his company with Progress Energy, an effort expected to close by July 1. USS Cole Commander Kirk Lippold, a decorated former commanding officer of the USS Cole, is scheduled to speak Tuesday, July 10, about the harrowing details of the deadly al-Qaeda bomb attack on his ship in the port of Aden, Yemen, in 2000. Lippold is the author of "Front Burner: Al Qaeda's Attack on the USS Cole," a first-person narrative of the Oct. 12, 2000, attack.
