Social media can be a force for good if reporters basing stories on tweets, Facebook or YouTube follow traditional journalism standards, a panel of seasoned journalists and communications specialists said Oct. 20. 5 Bourbons, 5 Courses, $85; Reservations Open for Oct. 26 Dinner
Five bourbons will be served with a five-course meal and reception at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 26, in the Fourth Estate Restaurant. The cost is $85 for members, $110 for non-members. Trey Zoeller, founder of McLain and Kyne, known for its “Very Small Batch” bourbons, will discuss the featured bourbons. Fiction Authors, Chefs Among Writers at Nov. 9 Book Fair
Cassandra Clare, author of the best-selling young adult series, “The Mortal Instruments,” will be a featured fiction author, and chefs Geoff Tracy and Spike Mendelsohn are among the top cookbook authors who will participate in the Book Fair from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9. NPC President Addresses Washington Interns, Students, 2 pm Oct. 22
NPC President and Bloomberg reporter Alan Bjerga will address students, interns and others involved with the Washington Programs Consortium at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22, in the First Amendment Lounge. The event is free and open to the public. Bjerga will discuss "Power and Press: Washington Reporting in the Obama Era." Reserve at [email protected]. Photoshop Classes Nov. 3 and 18; $20 for Members
Hands-on Photoshop workshops will be offered in November at two levels: Beginning Photoshop is 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3, and Intermediate Photoshop ia 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 18. Participants can attend either session or both. The workshops are $20 for NPC members and $55 for non-members for one session; $35 for members and $100 for non-members for both sessions. "Infidel" Author to Discuss Islam at Oct. 25 Luncheon
"Infidel" author and Muslim women's rights advocate Ayaan Hirsi Ali will discuss whether Islam is a religion of tolerance at an NPC luncheon on Monday, Oct. 25. The Q&A session is expected to cover such issues as women's rights, terrorism, education and peace prospects for the Middle East.
