Applications are available for the annual National Press Club awards, which recognize outstanding journalism in such areas as regional reporting, online, political writing, animal reporting, consumer issues and diplomatic correspondence. A three-part series for reporters or Web producers will explain the how-tos of adding a video component to stories. The classes are March 11 and 26 and April 2 in the Bloomberg Center for Electronic Journalism . Costs vary and must be paid in advance; see details below. Getting into Multimedia 103 Class, Feb. 23-25
Several spots are still available for NPC members in the Getting into Multimedia 103 class, Tuesday through Thursday, Feb. 23-25. The class is the last in a series of three classes on learning and improving multimedia and is aimed at professional journalists and educators. You do not need to have participated in the previous classes to take the 103 class. The fee is $30 per class for NPC members. Each course takes place entirely online. The Bertelsmann Foundation will release and discuss the 2010 English-language edition of the Bertelsmann Transformation Index at a Newsmaker at 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 9.
