Free Magic Show for Kids and Parents, 7:30 pm April 14
A half dozen Washington-area close-up magicians will entertain Club members and guests at a free, family friendly magic show at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 14, in the conference rooms. This show has been an annual favorite at the Club for years and is guaranteed to amaze the adults and captivate the youngsters, so bring the entire family. New Muffins, Pastries at Members' Self-Serve Breakfast
Club members who stop by the Reliable Source for breakfast are now offered freshly baked pastries and bite-sized muffins in addition to the fruit, bagels and other goodies on the continental breakfast buffet. Executive Chef Susan Delbert reports that "replacing the iced Danish of old, the Press Club is now baking pastries every morning so they are served out-of-the-oven warm to members or Press Club guests who arrive early. Mark Russell Entertains at Spring Hoot, 6:30 pm April 15; $35
Musical political satirist Mark Russell will perform at the Spring Hoot on Thursday, April 15. The dinner coordinated by the Club’s Silver Owls (25 years or more members) will install newly eligible members of the Owls and trace the years since Russell was introduced to the Club in 1961 during the NPC presidency of the current Head Hoot, John Cosgrove. $50,000 Grant Awarded for Investigative Journalism Series; Begins in Spring
The Ethics and Excellence in Journalism Foundation has awarded a $50,000 grant to the Eric Friedheim National Journalism Library at the National Press Club to offer a series of classes on investigative reporting. "Investigative Reporting in the New Media Environment" will teach journalists how to use all available multi-media reporting and story-telling tools for investigative reporting projects.
