Senate Historian Offers Tips on Doing Oral Histories, 6 pm Tonight
Planning to interview your grandparents about the day they met, or that close family friend who was the sole eyewitness to an event that forever changed world history? Before you reach for that tape recorder, come to a program on conducting effective oral histories at 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 9. Senate Historian Donald Ritchie, author of "Doing Oral History: A Practical Guide," will cover the dos and don'ts in conducting effective oral histories. The talk will now be in the Zenger room. Applications Due Nov. 20 for January Journopalooza
A heavy thump of rock and roll will break through the chill of DC’s darkest winter days when stage lights come up for Journopalooza II in the National Press Club Ballroom on Friday, Jan. 8, 2010, and journo-bands are needed. Applications are due Nov. 20. The Club is welcoming submissions from solo artists, rappers, or bands playing funk, crunk, country, hiphop, habanera, bluegrass, zydeco, reggaeton, jazz, blues, pop, or any variety of fusion. The only rule -- all acts for the second annual Journopalooza must have at least 50% of their members working in (or laid off from) the professional…

Review of Club Art Presented at Hoot
The Fall Hoot of the Silver Owls (long-time Club members) Oct. 29 featured a revealing reminder of the Club's archival treasures, notably Norman Rockwell's "Visit to a Country Editor." in a power point documentary assembled by Owls' Vice-chair, Don Larrabee, and Club Archivist Marlene Justsen. Larrabee announced that as a result of the sale of the painting Phryne, with most of the proceeds donated to the Eric Friedheim National Journalism Library , the Owls had authorized a donation of $2,400 from the Phryne fund for transcribing 20 oral histories of former Club presidents and jourrnalism…

Rutherford Wine Dinner Tonight; $70 for Members
Rutherford Wine Co. wines will be featured at a Fourth Estate Wine Dinner at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4. Tickets are $70 for members and their guests, $93 for non-members. The event includes a reception and five-course dinner with five featured wines. The reception will kick off at 6:30 p.m. with a Rutherford Ranch Sauvignon Blanc and passed hor d'eouvres.
