Children's Holiday Party Dec. 12; $8 Per Person
The annual Children's Holiday Party will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 12. Tickets are $8 per person. The party includes a buffet luncheon, a DJ, a performance from clogging dancers, gingerbread cookie decorating, magic tricks, face painting and a visit from Santa Claus. The Travel Committee will host a reception for Club members, their families, and friends at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19. Come enjoy the refreshments and learn about the trips being planned for the upcoming year, including Madrid in January, Cartagena in February, Egypt and Jordan in March, and Turkey in May. Patrick Greenlee and Zack Brown, representatives of Shutterstock, a photo agency, will speak to the Photography Committee at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, in the McClendon Room. Greenlee and Brown will talk about buying and selling images. Shutterstock, headquartered in NYC, is the largest subscription-based stock photo agency in the world. Senate Historian Gives Tips on Oral History Interviews
Oral histories should be transcribed as quickly as possible and include indexes, an expert on oral histories said during a presentation at the Club Nov. 9. Senate historian Don Ritchie coached the would-be interviewers to ask open-ended questions whenever possible but to be prepared with more specific follow-up questions, especially to pursue unexpected answers. Ritchie is the author of "Doing Oral History: A Practical Guide" and six other books, four of which are about Washington journalism. The Club has collected some 150 oral interviews. Member's Play about King Solomon, 8 pm Nov. 13
"The Last Days of King Solomon," a play by NPC member Anthony Gallo, will be presented at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, in the Murrow Room. Gallo says the two-act “black comedy ” is about doubt and faith during the latter days of Solomon, long-time ruler of militarily and economically powerful Israel .
