Books & Brunch to meet Saturday, July 24
The National Press Club’s Books & Brunch group will discuss “Olive Kitteridge,” a novel by Elizabeth Strout, at noon, Saturday, July 24 in the Fourth Estate Restaurant. If you buy a meal and bring your parking ticket from the PMI garage on G Street between 13th and 14th streets, the Fourth Estate will stamp it, giving you free parking. At the end of the Saturday discussion, the group will select a fiction book for the Sept. 18 discussion. NPC Members See Newly Protected Civil War Battlefield
More than 1,000 acres of battlefield property has been preserved in recent years in and around tiny Brandy Station, Virginia, near Culpeper, site of the largest cavalry battle of the Civil War, National Press Club members were told during a July 10 tour. Massey Energy CEO at July 22 Luncheon
Don L. Blankenship, the chairman and chief executive officer of Massey Energy Co., will speak at a Luncheon on Thursday, July 22, on the need to increase surface mining of coal to meet the nation’s energy requirements. Massey Energy is the fourth-largest coal company in the United States.
