World Food Prize Winner at Sept. 13 Luncheon
Anti-hunger and poverty advocate the Rev. David Beckmann, president of Bread for the World and this year's winner of the World Food Prize, will speak on “Eliminating Hunger: the People and Congress” at a Club Luncheon on Monday, Sept. 13. Beckmann, an economist and Lutheran minister, was named a World Food Prize laureate in June. The award, established in 1986 by Nobel Peace Prize laureate Norman Borlaug, is considered the Nobel Prize equivalent for food and agriculture. Beckmann has led Bread for the World since 1991. Daniel Schorr, a renowned broadcast journalist who was a tough check on the powerful U.S. and foreign officials he covered, died July 23.
