Annual Members Photo Exhibit Set for September
It's time to start shooting those great photos for the 11th Annual National Press Club Members Photography Exhibition, slated to run the entire month of September in the Club lobby. The exhibition, sponsored by the Club's Photography Committee, is open to all Club members, who can submit up to four of their best shots. Each photo may not exceed 11" x 14," and prints must be securely mounted and matted. Photos are due in the Club's archives between August 9 to 25. Complete exhibition rules will be published in coming weeks.

Congratulations to NPC employee George Arfken of the catering department for keeping his New Year's resolution and being featured in the Washington Post. Some guys turn 40 and want a sports car. George Arfken, of Germantown, wanted a sports body. Specifically, the kind one gets from parkour, a form of acrobatic running that incorporates rolling, climbing and jumping. Today is the deadline for participation in the spring 2010 mentoringprogram. A dozen members have applied to be mentees, and nine to bementors. Experienced journalists and PR pros who are willing to donatetime to help young communicators develop are especially welcome. We needone mentor who has background in television production. With the Fourth Estate Award dinner nearly sold out, the NPC is offering a limited number of tickets for the event's After Party, which will feature a performance by Bob Schieffer's band, Honky Tonk Confidential. Five days before he turned 80, Tony Curtis had the NPC ballroom full of World War II veterans and their families hooting with laughter at his stories.
