The National Press Club’s Books & Brunch group will discuss "Let the Great World Spin" by Colum McCann at its next meeting at noon, Saturday, May 15, in the Fourth Estate restaurant. All Club members and guests are welcome. The selection for the June 19 meeting is "Evening in the Palace of Reason: Bach Meets Frederick the Great in the Age of Enlightenment" by James R. Gaines. At the end of the May 15 brunch, the group will choose the book for the July 17 meeting. Journalism Bootcamp, 8:30 am May 15
Reporting and editing jobs are scarce, but Washington is as good a place as anyto find one. Spots are still left for the Journalism Survival Bootcamp, a day-long career-oriented program from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, May 15. Back Pain Expert to Teach Fitness Class, Noon June 7
Before you can say “Oh, my aching back” again, come down to the Bloomberg Room to meet Esther Gokhale, author of the Nautilus Gold award-winning book, “8 Steps to a Pain-Free Back,” from noon to 1 p.m. on Monday, June 7. Civil rights leader Andrew Young and his godson Kabir Sehgal will discuss their memoir "Walk in My Shoes: Conversations Between a Civil Rights Legend and His Godson on the Journey Ahead" at 6:30 pm, Monday, June 7, in the conference rooms. A top aide to Martin Luther King Jr., Young has has also been a diplomat, pastor, mayor of Atlanta, congressman and ambassador to the United Nations. Chef Mendelsohn at Wine Dinner June 7; $70 for Members
Chef Spike Mendelsohn of Good Stuff Eatery on Capitol Hill and his new cookbook will be featured at a June 7 dinner in the Fourth Estate Restaurant. The five-course dinner with wine pairings is $70 for Club members and their guests, $93 for non-members. Mendelsohn, who has appeared as a contestant on Top Chef and Iron Chef, trained at the Culinary Institute of America. His book "Good Stuff" is scheduled for publication over Memorial Day weekend. Lobster Night in Fourth Estate Tonight; $25 for Members
Steamed 1 1/4-pound lobsters will be on the Fourth Estate Restaurant dinner menu this evening. The price is $25 for members and their guests, $30 for non-members. The lobsters are served with drawn butter and a choice of oven-roasted potatoes or fries and coleslaw or green salad.
