State Department spokesman Philip J. Crowley will join the Club’s YoungMembers Committee for cocktails and conversation at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 13. The event is limited to young members of the Club. As the assistant secretary of public affairs, Crowley overseesthe State Department’s press and public relations strategy and conducts the daily briefing. Newly Found Scopes Trial Photos Shown at Photo Committee Meeting, Noon, June 30
Marcel Chotkowski LaFollette will show newly discovered photos from the famous 1925 Scopes trial at the Photography Committee luncheon meeting at noon on Wednesday, June 30, in the McClendon Room. LaFollette, a research associate at the Smithsonian Institution Archives, will describe how two Washington journalists took their cameras to Tennessee to cover the anti-evolution trial of John Scopes. Eighty years later, their unpublished photos were rediscovered at the Smithsonian.
