Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will discuss achievements and setbacks in U.S. education over the past four years at a National Press Club luncheon on Tuesday, Oct. 2. He also will offer his views on the challenges facing education in the 21st century. During his tenure as secretary, Duncan has led an effort to advance education reform. Marking the four-year anniversary of a landmark consumer product safety law, Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) Chairwoman Inez Tenenbaum will discuss improvements made on consumer issues in the United States and globally during a National Press Club Newsmaker on Aug. 9. A leader of the Catholic nuns organization at odds with the Vatican will discuss the coalition’s mission, its future role in the church, and controversy with the Vatican. Teamsters President James P. Hoffa to speak at Sept. 13 luncheon
In a speech entitled, "Defining Patriotism: Protecting America and the American Worker," Teamsters President James P. Hoffa will talk about the prospects for the country's workforce and what the government should do to bolster the American worker at a National Press Club luncheon on Thursday, Sept. 13. Get in a last great dinner before the Fourth Estate closes for vacation Aug. 20
The Fourth Estate will close for two weeks from Monday, Aug. 20 through Sept. 1. The restaurant traditionally closes for two weeks in August and this year the period dovetails with the closure for Labor Day weekend, Sept. 1 to Sept. 3.
