Coast Guard commandant to speak at NPC luncheon on Wed., Aug. 5
The commandant of the United States Coast Guard, Admiral Paul Zukunft, will speak at a National Press Club Luncheon on Wednesday, Aug. 5. Zukunft will discuss challenges facing the service, including cybersecurity, expansion of the Panama Canal and managing limited resources in a world that faces a growing number of threats. National Press Club members have a prime opportunity to learn how to build a successful freelance career as the American Society of Journalists and Authors (ASJA) holds its first-ever D.C. conference on Friday, Aug. 28. Roberto Morales, Cuba’s Minister of Public Health, will discuss Cuba’s program for preventing sexually transmitted diseases, especially HIV AIDS, at a Newsmaker news conference on Wednesday, July 1 at 10 a.m. in the Murrow Room. A committee of independent experts assembled by the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization visited Cuba in March and analyzed the nation’s progress in eliminating mother-to-child transmission of HIV and congenital syphilis. The Capitol region’s premiere holiday book event, the National Press Club Book Fair & Author Night, is back for the 38th year and now accepting applications from authors. The deadline to apply is close of business Sept. 25. Applicants will be notified via email by Oct. 9. This year's Book Fair will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 17 at Club.
