Sept. 27 Book Rap focuses on stolen art
Gary Vikan, who led Baltimore’s Walters Art Museum for nearly two decades, discusses his memoir, Sacred and Stolen: Confessions of a Museum Director, at a National Press Club Book Rap on Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 6:30 p.m. in the NPC's Conference Rooms. Memorial service for former Club President Art Wiese on Saturday
Former President Arthur E.F. Wiese Jr. will be remembered Saturday at a memorial service at beginning at 11 a.m. Wiese served as club president in 1979. Wiese suffered a brain aneurysm in 2012, which left him disabled until his death on Apr. 21, 2016. He chaired the committee that oversaw the renovation of the Club in the early 1980s. Wiese came to Washington as a member of the bureau of the Houston Post. In 1973, at the age of 27, he was named bureau chief. When he served as president of the Press Club at 32, he was the youngest person ever to hold the post in its then 71-year history. In…

Hungarian wine dinner planned for Fourth Estate Restaurant Sept. 27
the Fourth Estate will host a six-course wine dinner with the Embassy of Hungary featuring traditional Hungarian dishes and Hungarian wines on Tuesday, Sept. 27. Freelancers invited to media law program Sept. 20
The National Press Club Journalism Institute and the Media Law Resource Center Institute will present a one-day workshop aimed at freelancers, bloggers and other independent journalists working without the benefit of a legal department. Media lawyers will address libel, privacy, newsgathering and the Freedom of Information Act, and copyright and digital law. A media panel will discuss career paths, story pitches, and the ups and downs of being a journalist in 2016.
