Remember when LBJ gave a farewell conference at the Club?
Only a week before he left the presidency in January 1969, Lyndon Johnson chose the National Press Club for his final news conference. Although an honorary member, Johnson stopped to sign the guest register as he left. Almost immediately, some unknown person ripped the page from the book. Was it a Vietnam War protest or just the theft of a valuable autograph? To this day no one knows. Journalism Institute offers holiday book sale
The National Press Club Journalism Institute will host a holiday book sale from Monday to Thursday at the Library. Books will be on sale from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. They will cost between $2 - $10. Cash and credit cards will be accepted.

Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Burwell will discuss the Affordable Care Act and the consequences of the Republican-promised repeal at a Club luncheon Jan. 9. Journalism Institute to offer press freedom fellowship
The National Press Club's Journalism Institute will establish a Press Freedom Fellowship in order to shine a light on barriers to press freedoms abroad and in the United States. The institute invites individuals with expertise or interest in this field to apply for the fellowship, a one-year, part-time position. A monthly stipend will be provided. Supporters and opponents of the practice of some U.S. cities to protect unauthorized immigrants from federal immigration authorities will be discussed at noon today at the National Press Club's Zenger Room.
