Conflict and Violence in Iraq
Mr. Allawi spoke to reporters and answered questions about the occupation of Iraq, efforts to foster a secure environment in Iraq, and Iraqi perceptions of the U.S. role in the country. Mr. Allawi is the author of The Occupation of Iraq: Winning the War, Losing the Peace, published by Yale University Press, and senior adviser to the prime minister of Iraq. Since the Coalition's invasion of Iraq, he served as his country's first postwar civilian minister of defense for the interim Iraqi government and as minister of finance for the transitional government.

Outreach to Military Families
Sesame Workshop announced the results of a study and project titled, "Talk, Listen, Connect: Helping Families During Military Deployment." The project was developed to provide tools and ideas to parents and caregivers on how to help children cope with the process of deployment. Participants talked about the results and potential implementation of programming, and showed a video presentation for use in educating children about military deployment of parents.

Local Health Emergency Preparedness
Public health officials, government agency representatives and others spoke about improving local preparedness for public health emergencies. They spoke about lessons learned for a recent meningitis outbreak in Rhode Island and the response to a major snow storm in the Denver area. The also talked about communication and coordination between various agencies, emergency disaster and public health planning, and preparedness for responses to terrorist threats.

2007 Tax Season
Commissioner Everson addressed future tax administration issues and reported on the 2007 tax season. Topics included international transactions, tax exemptions, simplification of the tax laws, House and Senate committee hearings on tax issues, electronic tax filing, IRS enforcement results, and the alternative minimum tax. He responded to questions submitted by audience members. This program begins abruptly and is missing approximately a minute of introductions.
