He discussed the problems he has encountered as a result of publishing his book, The Satanic Verses and announced that it will be printed in paperback form. He ended by fielding questions from the audience. Mr. Rushdie has made only one other public appearance in the United States since going into hiding in February of 1992. Mr. Rushdie went into hiding when the late Ayatollah Khomeini of Iran condemned him to death for writing the book, The Satanic Verses.
