Son of famed U-2 pilot to speak at American Legion Post 20 Meeting
Francis Gary Powers, Jr., son of the famed U-2 pilot, will speak at the next meeting of American Legion Post 20. The meeting takes place at noon on Wednesday, March 27 in the McClendon Room. Powers plans to discuss his new graphic novel, Enemy Territory, and his efforts to help school kids learn about Cold War history. He is the founder and Chairman Emeritus of the Cold War Museum in Vint Hill, Virginia. He also served as chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee for Cold War Theme Study, which helped the National Park Service identify historic Cold War sites for preservation. Francis…

Author Jennifer London is the featured speaker at the next meeting of the National Press Club's affiliated American Legion post. Post 20's luncheon meeting takes place on Wednesday, May 8 at noon in the Cosgrove Room. All Press Club members are invited. Dr. London plans to discuss her new book, Profiles in Character: Sixteen Americans and the Traits That Defined Them. The Americans profiled in her book include Ronald Reagan, Amelia Earhart, Frederick Douglass, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Harry Truman. National Press Club's Photography Team hears from the U.S. Senate Historian at its next meeting on Wednesday, May 22 at 12:00 pm in the Cosgrove Lounge. The event is free and open to NPC members, but reservations are required. Katherine Scott Ph.D., the Senate's historian, will tell how the photography and other media galleries began and evolved into their current role.
