Join Uyghur journalist Kasim Kashgar for a screening and discussion of the documentary "From Fear to Freedom: A Uyghur’s Journey" at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 14 at an event hosted by the National Press Club. Doors to the Holeman Lounge will open at 6 p.m. The documentary screening will start at 6:30 p.m. and be followed by a conversation with Kashgar.

Photography Team Holiday Party
Celebrate the winter holidays with National Press Club's Photo Team on Wednesday, Dec. 13 in the Cosgrove Lounge. We'll start with a buffet lunch from the Reliable Source, then honor this year's NPC event photographers, followed by a photo show-and-tell on the theme of "travel". As we've done before, participants can interpret the theme anyway they want. Please send one digital travel-theme image in .jpg or .png format to Photo Team co-chair Alan Kotok ([email protected]) by Monday, Dec. 11. At the party, we will show each photo and ask photographers to tell the story behind them.

Vivian Awards
National Press Club President Eileen O'Reilly will recognize journalist and communicator members for outstanding service to the Club at the Vivian Awards ceremony on Wednesday, December 6 at 6:00 p.m. The presentation will take place at the National Press Club in the First Amendment Lounge and is open to those Club members who are actively involved with one of the Club's 16 teams. "The Vivians" are named after former club president Vivian Vahlberg and honor the Club's top volunteers.

Join us for an interesting discussion about how ethnic media and other media outlets are tackling the huge problem of news deserts for communities that are underserved by many mainstream media outlets. Communities of color or underrepresented groups often do not have their stories or concerns told unless they are connected to a big (often negative) event.
