Please join NETWORK, Sister Simone, and Lawrence O’Donnell for the release of Raising Rural Voices: Listening to the Hopes and Hardships of Rural Communities, on Tuesday, February 25th at the National Press Club. Last year, NETWORK staff visited 17 rural communities, listening and documenting the concerns of those communities. From immigration to health care to transportation, the report findings showcase how rural problems need rural solutions, and all too often, policymakers fail to address these issues. "India: The Modi Question" Documentary & Panel
On Tuesday, March 7th at 6 p.m., a truncated version of "India: The Modi Question" will be screened followed by a panel discussion organized by the Indian American Muslim Council. After the BBC aired this documentary on Jan. 17, the Indian government used its emergency powers to ban it from being aired in the country. Modi’s government also forced Twitter and YouTube to block the documentary in India under an unjust 2021 information technology law. Solidarity for Shireen Abu Akleh
Veteran American reporter Shireen Abu Akleh was shot and killed on May 11, 2022 as she was covering a raid near Jenin in the West Bank. A correspondent for Al Jazeera, Shireen had been covering events in the region for 15 years and was following all the protocols to maintain safety. She was in plain sight of the Israeli forces. She was wearing a vest clearly marked PRESS, and was wearing her helmet. But, despite these precautions, evidence indicates she was fired upon and killed by the Israeli military.
