News Conference On FTC Complaint Against Facebook
Andy Parker, the father of slain television journalist Alison Parker has filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) against Facebook. The complaint raises questions about Facebook’s role in allowing moment-of-death video of Alison Parker’s August 26, 2015 murder to be posted and reposted on the network. The complaint was prepared by Georgetown Law Clinic. Parker will give details of the FTC filing and answer reporters questions at a news conference with details below. Mary Lou McDonald, president of the Sinn Féin political party, will speak at a National Press Club’s in-person Headliners newsmaker on Thursday, Dec. 2, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the Fourth Estate. McDonald will discuss Brexit’s effect on the island nation’s economic and political stability, the rise of Sinn Féin and the prospects for reunification of Ireland. Former Attorney General Eric Holder and New York Times bestselling author Sam Koppelman will discuss their new book, “Our Unfinished March: The Violent Past and Imperiled Future of the Vote,” at a Headliners Book Event on May 12 at 2 p.m. In the book, Holder, chairman of the National Democratic Redistricting Committee, and Koppelman describe three dramatic fights for the right to vote, first by white men, then by white women, and finally by African Americans, and the ways the right to vote has lost ground since.
