Best-selling author and former First Lady of Iceland Eliza Reid will discuss "Death on the Island," her debut mystery novel, at a Headliners Book Event on May 22 at 6 p.m.
The tale takes readers on a haunting trip to Iceland's Westman Islands where, as a storm rages outside and glasses are raised in a toast, the deputy ambassador falls dead. Trapped by the weather, the remaining guests grow suspicious of one another as secrets are revealed, and the ambassador's wife begins to wonder whether they have all witnessed a murder.
Reid, an acclaimed writer and co-founder of the Iceland Writers Retreat, served as the first lady of Iceland from 2016 to 2024. As first lady, she advocated for gender equality, entrepreneurship and innovation, and tourism and sustainability, and promoted Iceland's rich literary heritage. Her first book, "Secrets of the Sprakkar: Iceland's Extraordinary Women and How They Are Changing the World" became an international bestseller and was selected as a New York Times Book Review Editor's Pick.
The event will include a discussion with the author and a book signing. Ticket prices are $5 for National Press Club members and $10 for general admission. Books are available for pre-purchase. A limited number of books will be for sale at the event.
To submit a question in advance for Reid, put ICELAND in the subject line and email to [email protected]. The deadline for submitting questions in advance is 4 p.m. on the day of the event.
