Podcast: C-Span founder Brian Lamb advocates for Supreme Court broadcasts
In the latest edition of Update 1, the podcast produced by the National Press Club Broadcast Committee, Brian Lamb, retired chief executive of C-Span, talks about why the industry probably wouldn’t give the channel a green light if it were proposed for the first time today, and how it might be affected by a move to “a-la-carte” cable service.
Lamb, who is credited with inventing public affairs channels, expresses frustration at the Supreme Court’s refusal to allow video coverage and calls this year’s viewership of 15-million for the White House Correspondents Association dinner “amazing.”
In his chat with broadcast correspondent and Broadcast Committee member Steve Taylor, Lamb also dreams about getting inside the Gridiron Dinner, which he describes as “the real chummy evening that nobody ever sees unless you’re invited.”
Lamb was honored on May 12 at the Broadcast Committee’s “Legends” dinner at the Club.
