Event to explore World War I, the Club and the sinking of the Lusitania, 6:30 pm May 7
On the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Lusitania, the National Press Club and the U.S. World War I Commission will host a program that examines how the incident, its press coverage and the surrounding propaganda campaign led to the U.S. entry into the war.
The program starts at 6:30 p.m. on May 7. Admission is free, but reservations are required.
Former Club President Gil Klein, chairman of the Club’s History and Heritage Committee, will talk about the Club during World War I before moderating a panel that includes:
- John Maxwell Hamilton, senior scholar at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars
- Richard Striner, a Washington College expert on Woodrow Wilson, and
- Rear Adm. Samuel Cox (Ret.), director of the Navy History and Heritage Command.
