Ukraine's presidential advisor plans NPC Newsmaker discussion of new government

Oleg Mahnitskyi, senior advisor to Ukraine President Petro Poroshenko, plans to discuss the importance of legal and political reforms in Ukraine, and the ongoing formation of the new government there at a National Press Club Newsmakers press conference on Friday, November 14, at 3 p.m. in the NPC's Zenger Room.

Mahnitskyi is bringing the new Ukraine administration’s quest for the recovery of stolen and corrupt assets to Washington, D.C., where he will consult with the U.S. Attorney General’s office and experts at the World Bank.

Mahnitskyi is a well known politician and lawyer who acted as a spokesman for, and led volunteer legal support to, the mass protests in 2013 and 2014 known as the Euromaidan movement against corruption in support of Ukraine's integration into Europe. He is a member of Ukraine's High Council of Justice, a former Ukraine attorney general and a former parliament member.

As attorney general, Mahnitskyi prosecuted former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych on charges of mass killings of Euromaidan protestors. He placed Yanukovych and members of his government on Ukraine’s most-wanted list and asked Russia to extradite them. He represents the Ukrainian authorities in close cooperation with the International Advisory Panel of the Council of Europe in investigating the alleged crimes of Yanukovych's regime.

In April, Mahnitskyi organized the Ukraine Forum on Asset Recovery in London, a high-level conference involving more than 30 countries, to foster international cooperation for the early tracing and freezing of assets stolen by Yanukovych's regime.

Like all Newsmakers events, this press conference is free and open to credentialed media and Press Club members. No advance registration is required.
