Ethicist, pastor and activist Wallis to address Ferguson shooting Nov. 4
Jim Wallis, ethicist, pastor and activist, who was arrested Oct. 13 in an act of civil disobedience in Ferguson, Missouri, will provide his perspective on events in Ferguson at a Newsmaker event Tuesday, Nov. 4 at 1 p.m. in the Zenger Room.
The shooting of Michael Brown on Aug. 9 in Ferguson sparked massive protests and once again focused national attention on the issue of police treatment of minorities. Wallis, the president and founder of Sojourners — a Christian organization that promotes “faith in action for social justice,” will speak from his viewpoint as a pastor, father, activist and respected voice on ethics and values on the events in Ferguson. He also will propose steps to prevent such events in the future.
In addition to being the head of Sojourners, Wallis is the editor-in-chief of Sojourners Magazine. He has written 11 books, including "On God’s Side: What Religion Forgets and Politics Hasn’t Learned About Serving the Common Good," "Rediscovering Values: A Guide for Economic and Moral Recovery," "The Great Awakening: "Reviving Faith & Politics in a Post-Religious Right America" and "God’s Politics: Why the Right Gets It Wrong and the Left Doesn’t Get It."
