Jan. 8 American Legion Post 20 meeting focuses on Vietnam War Commemoration

American Legion Post 20 will receive an update on 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War Commemoration at noon Wednesday, Jan. 8, in the McClendon Room. The Vietnam War Commemoration has sponsored a range of events and activities to honor those who served during the Vietnam era. The Department of Veterans Affairs estimates more than seven million Vietnam veterans currently live in the U.S. and abroad.

The 2008 National Defense Authorization Act empowered the defense secretary to commemorate the Vietnam War with programs running from Memorial Day 2012 through Veterans Day 2025.

All Press Club members and their guests are invited to the luncheon meeting. The buffet will be available at a cost of $23. There will be one bill for the lunch, so attendees are asked to bring cash to pay their share.

Post 20 was founded at the urging of famed World War I General John J. Pershing, and has been affiliated with the Press Club for more than a century.
