Club members invited to ICC Team happy hour in Cosgrove Lounge, Thursday; panel discussion Friday
Foreign correspondents and other journalists gather for drinks at the National Press Club International Correspondents Committee's happy hour, Thursday, May 18, starting at 5:30 p.m. in the Cosgrove Lounge. Reserve here to mingle, network and discuss current events.
For Club members and their guests only.
The Club ICC Team expects to be joined by a special guest from Ukraine, Sarah Ashton-Cirillo, an American journalist and war correspondent, who will be sharing the latest from the ground. She is currently serving in the Ukrainian military, and is in Washington this week to represent the Armed Forces of Ukraine in meetings with key administration officials and Congress members and staff.
Also ICC Team member Øystein Bogen, who wrote this coverage of an Embassy Night for the NPC Wire, will be sharing his experiences reporting from Putin's Russia. He wrote the book "An unusual spy" in 2019 and authored a documentary film in 2021 about foreigners arrested in Russia for espionage and related crimes. He will be sharing his first-hand perspective on what American journalist Evan Gershkovich will be experiencing in Lefortovo jail right now, how the case against him might play out and how a swap can possibly take place.
NOTE: The next evening, Friday, May 19, also in the Cosgrove Lounge at 5:30 p.m., the ICC Team is host to a panel discussing the issues raised in a book by Club member Asanga Abeyagoonasekera on "China's Sri Lanka Foray."
